Pot Holes

Find out more about my campaign to get the roads repaired across Weston Village.

THE ISSUE

Many of the roads around Weston Village were originally installed with block paving and over time this has sunk and the block paving has become loose.

In some areas these have been dangerous and the council have undertaken unsightly patch work.

Throughout my time as a councillor residents have raised repeated frustrations that Weston Village is being ignore and these roads not being repaired.

After looking into the issue it was clear the cost of repairs was upwards of £300k and that the council were not prioritising these estate roads due to the previous Conservative Government introduced cuts.

THE NEWS

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Campaign progress – Weston Village road repairs start!

After a long campaign and a lot of lobbying I’m delighted that some of the roads I’ve regularly raised concerns about have now been repaired.

Worle Moor Road (between Howitt Way and Abbey Gardens), Bransby Way (junction with Old Mill Way), Longridgeway Circus (near Dungarvon Road), Longridge Way (junction with Carberry View) and Longridge Way (junction of Stroud Way) have had the block paving removed and replaced with Asphalt.

There’s a lot more work to do and I continue to engage with North Somerset Council to ensure the remaining roads are repaired over the next financial year.

✅ Long ridge Way Circus (near Dungarvon Road) has now been resurfaced

When we stood for election our priority was to push for the roads to be resurfaced around Weston Village - we're making progress, but I know there's lots to do, the other Longridge Way Circus being one of those to get resolved.

We'll keep at it and I'll keep you informed.

So far we've got resurfaced:

1️⃣ Worle Moor Road (between Howitt Way and Abbey Gardens)
2️⃣ Bransby Way (junction with Old Mill Way)
3️⃣ Longridge Way (junction with Carberry View)
4️⃣ Longridge Way (junction of Stroud Way)
5️⃣ Longridge Way Circus (near Dungarvon Road)

I would like to see some of the bushes cut back on the circles long ridge way so when driving you can see cars coming from the other direction and children exiting the parks.

✅ WESTON VILLAGE ROAD REPAIRS FINISHED

The block paving repairs at Worle Moor Road; Longridge Way (junction with Merton Drive); Longridge Way (junction with Stroud Way); Bransby Way have now been completed.

I've been campaigning for years for these repairs - including a petition and engagement with executive councillors and highways officers - so it's great these have finally happened.

I know there are loads more to do and Charlie, Annabelle and I will be continuing to press for the remaining roads to be done. Our next opportunity is next financial year.

During the election we committed to try to secure the repairs to Weston Village roads - I'm glad we've made good progress on this.

How about the junction of Longridge Way and Vale Mill Way?? That’s worse than some of those above!!

Much much better 👏👏

Can I ask if these areas were chosen over the other areas on Weston Village that have more severe damage as it was quicker and cheaper to replace?

Are you able to start widening the areas in the pictures all are causing chaos with people not using their parking spaces and too many cars …. Some areas could be wider to accommodate parking

Hi a good start the rest of the Estate need doing Also the path beside Wakehurst Gardens need's cutting back thanks David.

Some of the roads around Weston Village were in an incredibly poor state with the roads having sunk and the block paving loose. I and my Labour colleagues made a pledge when we were seeking election that we’d fight for the funding to get the roads repaired – I’m glad we’ve been able to achieve this.

I have long been campaigning to get these roads repaired and spent many hours walking the ward and recording all of the damaged roads and reporting these to the council’s highways officers.

I met the council officers and lobbied the Executive for Highways and learnt that at least £300k would be needed to repair the roads. I’ve been pushing for the repairs to be included in the budget for some time and this included launching a petition that over 70 residents signed.

I consulted with all impacted residents about whether the block paving should be replaced like for like – but it would be more expensive – or replace with Aspalt – which would be cheaper and may help the repairs happen quicker.

There was a great response from residents with 60% saying they wanted Aspalt. I’ve used this evidence regularly to make the case for repairs.
